Mountain Lutheran Church Celebrates Pentecost Sunday on May 19, 2024!
(Retired Pastor Ginger DuMars)

Pentecost Sunday is May 19 this year & is considered the Birthday of the Christian Church according to most Liturgical Christian Denominations.  So, we will celebrate with Worship at 4:00 & with special refreshments & fellowship following Worship on May 19 at Mountain Lutheran Church, 13000 Down to Earth Ct. in Groveland.    This is the day we honor God giving the gift of the Holy Spirit to Jesus’ disciples & His followers over the centuries (including present times) as described in the Gospel according to John, chapter 14;  Acts, chapter 2; & many other places in the Bible.  We believe that God’s Spirit is alive & active in Christians in a variety of ways – just as Jesus promised:  teaching & leading us, comforting & challenging us,  empowering & advocating for us.  We believe that God’s Holy Spirit lives & acts in unity with & as part of the Holy Trinity.  We’ll honor Holy Trinity Sunday on May 26.
We celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus almost every Sunday & especially throughout the 7 weeks of the Easter Season – until May 19.  Easter is the most important day & the highest holy day of the whole year for most Christians!  Pentecost Sunday & its significance are very close to Easter in its importance!  God’s gifts of New Life are abundantly apparent this time of year as Spring gives us a beautiful array of wildflowers blooming, new green leaves & blossoms bursting forth on many trees, abundant green grass & a variety of birds singing their songs!  Enjoy Spring & give God thanks!
We will also celebrate Mothers’ Day on May 12 as we honor ALL the women who have nurtured & inspired us in our daily lives & from the Bible!  Some of the most influential women in my life include my talented mother & grandmothers, my aunts & cousins, my daughter & adult granddaughters,  many teachers & professors & Christian friends.  Miriam, Esther, Ruth, Rahab, Lydia, Mary – the Mother of Jesus, Mary & Martha of Bethany, Mary Magdalene & the women at Jesus’ cross are some of favorite, inspiring women from the Bible!  For whom do you give thanks on this special day?  Please tell them & thank God for them & have a Happy Mothers’ Day!
You’re INVITED to come & worship & celebrate God’s gifts on Sundays at 4:00 p.m. at Mountain Lutheran Church, 13000 Down to Earth Ct. (off Ferretti Rd.), Groveland.  Call the Church Office & leave a message for more information, 209-962-4064, & we’ll return your call ASAP.

Singing our praises & joys, laments & concerns to God is a special form of prayer emphasized throughout the Bible.  The book of Psalms includes vital encouragement to sing & pray together as a community & individually.  Psalm 100 is a favorite for many people & says:  “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.  Worship the Lord with gladness;  come into God’s presence with singing.  Know that the Lord is God.  It is God who made us and we are God’s people, and the sheep of  His pasture.   Enter God’s gates with thanksgiving and God’s courts with praise.  Give thanks to Him and bless God’s Holy Name.”  (Psalm 100:1-4, NRSV)

We invite everyone lovingly and with open arms to join us as we celebrate our lives in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After service fellowship includes friendly conversation with church members and visitors.

Mountain Lutheran church is the only liturgical non-Catholic Church in the Groveland/Big Oak Flat area. We are part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and we welcome people of ALL faith traditions, orientations, and backgrounds.

Our mission is to spread the Word of God through faith, family, and fellowship. Come worship with us at 4:00PM Sunday afternoons. We celebrate communion most Sundays.
